My interest with hair and makeup began at a young age, without realizing it would be one day my career. Growing up with three older brothers and a father who was a mechanic, I was very much a tomboy. Despite that, as a teenager I found myself constantly playing with friends’ hair and experimenting makeup for proms and special occasions. It may not always looked perfect, but the passion was always there. My friends and I often visited the makeup counters at the mall, where I admired the artist and their work. I would quietly wonder if that could ever be me, or if I simply wasn’t good enough. Later in my adult like, I started a career that lasted ten years in the automotive industry.
In 2005, I was asked to be my cousin’s Maid of Honor, unaware of the responsibilities that came with the role. She assured me that hair and makeup would be provided as a part of a package. Unfortunately, a last-minute hiccup placed me in a position of doing hair and makeup on all the women in the wedding, including myself. Under pressure with no clear direction, I relied on my instinct and did the job. The outcome was amazing and a complete success. What initially felt overwhelming became a window of opportunity.
After returning to work, the economy began to experience a downturn, forcing me to make a difficult decision about my future and whether to return to school. Looking back, this was truly a blessing in disguise. Shortly after, I decided to enroll in beauty school to pursue my passion and dreams–and it was so much fun. After completing my Cosmetology education, I landed my first professional photo shoot, which involved multiple wardrobe and makeup changes. I thrived in the fast-pace environment. Soon after, I was offered my first wedding gig–and I fell in love. I continued building my career specializing in bridal hairstyling and makeup.
To stay current in the industry, I regularly attend courses and conventions to keep up with the latest trends. Seven years later, I was offered a position as the Northern California Educator Specialist for Givenchy under LVMH Fragrance brand, a Sephora-exclusive line. Presently, I have returned to beauty school to further expand my knowledge and am now a Licensed Esthetician. Everyday is a blessing, and I am grateful for every opportunity as I continue to grow and evolve in my journey in the beauty industry.
